All of chettinad dishes are very popular because of their unique taste .This recipe is their traditional way of making fish curry.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Any kind of fish 1/2 kg
  2. green chillies 3
  3. To dry roast
  4. Mustard 1tsp
  5. Jeera 1 tsp
  6. Pepper Corn 1 tsp
  7. Fenugreek 1tsp
  8. To grind
  9. Galic cloves 3
  10. Tomato 1
  11. Small onion 5
  12. Chilli powder 2 tsp
  13. Coriander powder 2 tsp
  14. Turmeric 1 tsp
  15. Salt to taste
  16. Grated coconut 1cup
  17. For the Gravy
  18. green chillies 3
  19. Tamarind pulp 1/4 cup

Instructions

  1. Dry roast all ingredients for 2 to 3 min. Powder them. We need just 1 tsp. The rest we can store.
  2. Then in a pan add oil, put garlic, then onion and fry well. Next add 1 tsp of dry roast powder and fry. Then add tomato, chilli powder, coriander powder and fry well for about 5 min. When cool grind it to a smooth paste, adding 1 cup of grated coconut.
  3. Take a big pan, add oil, put green chillies and curry leaves. Fry for a few sec. Then add ground masala. Fry for another 3 to 4 min. Add tamarind pulp, turmeric and salt. Add enough water. Let it boil for sometime.
  4. Then put fish and stir well. Cook on a medium flame for 10 min or till the fish cooks well. Sprinkle 1 tsp of roasted masala powder on top. It enhances the flavour. Serve hot. If you like the flavour you can add a little more.
