Dry roast all ingredients for 2 to 3 min. Powder them. We need just 1 tsp. The rest we can store.
Then in a pan add oil, put garlic, then onion and fry well. Next add 1 tsp of dry roast powder and fry. Then add tomato, chilli powder, coriander powder and fry well for about 5 min. When cool grind it to a smooth paste, adding 1 cup of grated coconut.
Take a big pan, add oil, put green chillies and curry leaves. Fry for a few sec. Then add ground masala. Fry for another 3 to 4 min. Add tamarind pulp, turmeric and salt. Add enough water. Let it boil for sometime.
Then put fish and stir well. Cook on a medium flame for 10 min or till the fish cooks well. Sprinkle 1 tsp of roasted masala powder on top. It enhances the flavour. Serve hot. If you like the flavour you can add a little more.
