ABOUT Rava Appalu RECIPE

This is a traditional deep fried sweet prepared in Andhra during festivals as Naivedhyam. Easy to prepare and I am sure you will be impressed with the taste.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Semolina / Suji - 1 cup
  2. Sugar - 1 cup
  3. Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  4. Water - 1 cup
  5. Oil/Ghee for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan. Now dry roast the semolina on a low flame for 2 minutes or until it changes into light brown. Then keep it aside.
  2. Take a kadai. Pour a cup of water. Once it comes to a rolling boil, add the roasted semolina and stir continuously without any lumps. Then add sugar and mix well.
  3. Add cardamom powder to it and mix thoroughly. Cover it with a lid and allow it to cook until the mixture thickens.
  4. Switch off the flame. Let it cool for sometime.
  5. Grease your hands and knead the cooked mixture for a minute. Divide the mixture into lemon sized balls and flatten them between your palms.
  6. Heat oil in a pan for deep frying. Deep fry /Shallow fry them on medium flame until golden brown color.
  7. Remove from the oil and transfer into a serving plate.
  8. Serve immediately.
