My mother in law taught me this recipe. It's rich in Vitamin C.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Amla/Gooseberry - 10 (Big ones)
  2. Red Chilli Powder - 2 tablespoons(As per your taste)
  3. Oil - 1/2 cup (any cooking oil I use Gingely Oil/Olive Oil)
  4. Mustard - 1/2 tsp
  5. Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
  6. Fenugreek seeds powder - 1/2 tsp
  7. Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  8. Salt as required

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a vessel, add turmeric and little salt.
  2. Wash and wipe gooseberry put them in the boiling water. Leave it for 4 to 5 hours.
  3. Once it is cold, take it out and separate slices. Discard seeds
  4. Heat a kadai, add oil, mustard wait till it splutters, add asafoetida. Add the chopped gooseberry and saute for 2 to 3 mins. Add salt, fenugreek powder and red chilli powder. Mix all and turn off the stove.
  5. Allow it to cool and transfer to glass or porcelain container.
  6. Mix well and leave it for a day. Keep mixing in intervals with a wooden or plastic spoon.
  7. Pickle is ready
