Homemade Vietnamese Pho soup

ABOUT Homemade Vietnamese Pho soup RECIPE

One of the items on my cooking list that I make every year in winter. A big bowl of comforting, warm, aromatic, fresh, piled-high-with-garnishes, awkward-to-pronounce-but-awesome-to-taste Vietnamese pho. I love it on snowy winter days, perfect soup for the winter

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 kg steak very thinly sliced
  2. 6-8 cup of beef broth
  3. 1 medium yellow onion, quartered
  4. 4 cloves of garlic, roughly minced
  5. 3 whole star anise
  6. 1 (3-inch) knob of ginger, sliced into coins
  7. 1 cinnamon stick
  8. salt and black pepper
  9. 1 package pho rice noodles (look for the word “pho” on the package)
  10. Garnishes: bean sprouts, fresh cilantro, fresh ginger slices, lime wedges, thinly-chopped green onions, thinly-sliced jalapenos, Thai basil

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker take 3-5 tsp oil
  2. Add onion, garlic, ginger star anise, cloves, ginger, cinnamon stick
  3. Put the steak and sauté till all the spices are mix together
  4. Add 6-7 cup of water. Cover, reduce heat to medium-low, and let it cook for at least 20 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, cook the noodles according to package instructions. (If your package of noodles — like mine — did not have instructions, simply bring a large pot of water to a boil. Then cook the noodles until al dente, about 3 minutes.) Immediately drain the
  6. When you are ready to serve the soup, fill the serving bowls about halfway full with noodles.
  7. Then cover with the hot broth, and add some steak pieces on the top
  8. Top with your desired garnishes.
