ABOUT Capsicum Gotsu RECIPE

A tamarind based spicy gravy that goes great with rice and pongal.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Capsicum - 2 large, cut into cubes
  2. Green chillies - 4 , finely chopped
  3. Mustard seeds -1tsp
  4. Methi seeds - 1tsp
  5. Channa dal - 1tsp
  6. Curry Leaves - a handful
  7. Asafoetida - A Pinch
  8. Turmeric powder - 1tsp
  9. Red Chilli Powder - 2 Tsp
  10. Coriander powder - 3 tsp
  11. Jaggery - powdered, 2 tsp
  12. Tamarind - a lemon sized ball
  13. Salt to taste
  14. Oil for tempering

Instructions

  1. In a pan, heat the oil and add the mustard seeds.
  2. Once they start to crackle, add the channa dal, methi seeds,curry leaves and asafoetida.
  3. Next, add the capsicum and green chillies.
  4. Add all the spice powders, salt and mix well.
  5. Saute the capsicum for a minute.
  6. Add the extracted tamarind water to the pan.
  7. Cover the lid and bring it to a boil.
  8. Once it boils, add the jaggery to it.
  9. You can adjust the consistency with a little rice flour mixed with water, if it's too runny. Let this boil for another minute.
  10. Turn off the heat and serve hot with rice or pongal.
