ABOUT Sausage rolls RECIPE

Sausage rolls are very popular continental snack growing popularity everywhere. They are very tasty buttery flavored soft rolls liked especially by kids.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. All purpose flour 4 cups
  2. Dry yeast 1 teaspoon
  3. Regular sugar 2 teaspoon
  4. Warm milk 1/2 cup
  5. Salt 1 teaspoon
  6. Eggs 2
  7. Unsalted butter 1/4th cup (cold)
  8. Vegetable margarine 1/4th cup (cold)
  9. More milk 1 tablespoon to brush the rolls
  10. Chicken sausage 20 pieces or as required

Instructions

  1. Add sugar and yeast to warm milk and rest for 5-6 minutes to activate the yeast.
  2. In a big mixing bowl add flour and salt and mix well.
  3. Add cold butter and margarine to the flour and mix by rubbing with finger tips.
  4. Mix well to form a crumbly texture.
  5. Add the activated yeast mixture and eggs and mix well with a spatula.
  6. Knead well to make a soft dough.
  7. Cover the dough and keep in a warm place for about an hour or till dough becomes double in size.
  8. When the dough raises to double take out from the bowl and keep in a clean counter top and start kneading.
  9. Knead well by stretching and folding method for about 10 minutes. Kneading help to make the rolls soft.
  10. Now take 1/4th portion of the dough and roll it to make a rectangular shape thin sheet.
  11. Cut lengthwise to make about 2 cm width ribbons or strips.
  12. Take a sausage and roll each ribbon/strip over it to cover the sausage completely. Start rolling from one side of the sausage to cover up to the other side.
  13. Like this make all the rolls and arrange them in a baking tray. Keep some gap between them.
  14. Brush each roll with some milk & bake at 200 c for 20 minutes.
