ABOUT Chocolate Espresso BBQ Sauce RECIPE

A smooth, spicy barbeque sauce gets even richer with chocolate. It gives rich and complex flavour. This sauce pairs well with pork and chicken.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 2 tbsp butter
  2. 2 tbsp Olive oil
  3. 2 cloves garlic minced
  4. 1 small onion chopped
  5. 1 1/2 cups tomato puree/ketchup
  6. 1/3 cup brown sugar
  7. 1 tsp instant espresso powder
  8. 1 tsp cumin powder
  9. 1 tsp coriander powder
  10. 3 tbsp cider vinegar
  11. 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder/ 1/4 Cup chopped chocolate
  12. 2 tbsp honey (optional)
  13. 1 tsp paprika powder
  14. 2 tsp mustard powder
  15. Salt according to taste
  16. 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  17. 1 tbsp hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan and add olive oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add garlic and onions and cook on low heat until onions are soft and tender. Make sure it doesn't burn at bottom.
  3. Now add cocoa powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, paprika powder, salt, ground pepper and saute for 1 min.
  4. If you're adding chopped chocolate instead of cocoa powder add after sauce is taken out from flame while its still hot. Stir well till chocolate melts.
  5. Add tomato puree/ketchup and brown sugar and cook until sugar is dissolved. Cook for about 10min. Stir well for every 2 min.
  6. Stir in vinegar, espresso powder, hot sauce, dry mustard.
  7. To balance the bitterness from chocolate, espresso you can add honey to balance that.
  8. Cook stirring occasionally until it gets thick on low flame. It takes about 15-20min.
  9. After it thickens you can transfer into a blender to make smooth paste or you can leave like that.
  10. You can store this in air tight container in fridge for 1 month
