ABOUT Coconut Vaadaa RECIPE

An amazing yummilicious traditional snack which is very common in my hometown. This is a tea time snack which is served for newly wedded grooms in thier in laws place.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Raw rice : 2 cups
  2. Cooked rice : 1 cup
  3. Onion : 1
  4. Ginger garlic paste: 2 teaspoons
  5. Curry leaves : 10
  6. Chillies : 2
  7. Turmeric powder : 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Cumin powder : 1 teaspoon
  9. Grated coconut : 1 1/2cups
  10. Salt : needed
  11. Oil : For deep frying

Instructions

  1. GRIND 1 CUP OF COOKED RICE INTO FINE PASTE
  2. MIX YHE RICE PASTE&RICE POWDER INTO A THICK BATTER ADD NEEDED SALT&KEEP FOR 8 HOURS FOR FERMENTATION
  3. HEAT 2 TABLESPOONS OF OIL IN A KADAAI, ADD CURRY LEAVES
  4. ADD ONE CHOPPED ONION AND SAUTE WELL UNTILL IT BECOMES TRANSPARENT
  5. ADD 2 TEASPOONS OF GINGER GARLIC PASTE AND SAUTE UNTIL THE RAW SMELL GOES
  6. ADD NEEDED SALT
  7. ADD ONE TEASPOON OF CUMIN POWDER AND ADD 1/2 TEASPOON OF TURMERIC POWDER
  8. ADD 2 CHOPPED CHILLIES
  9. ADD 1 1/2 CUP OF GRATED COCONUT
  10. MIX WELL AND ADD AROUND 1/2 CUP OF WATER
  11. MIX WELL & KEEP IN LOW FLAME FOR 2 MINUTES THEN SWITCH OFF THE FLAME
  12. SPREAD A WET COTTON CLOTH ON A WIDE FLAT BOTTOMED BOWL
  13. ADD 1/2 TEASPOON OF COOKING SODA IN THE BATTER AND MIX WELL
  14. KEEP A SMALL QUANTITY OF BATTER IN THE CLOTH
  15. WET YOUR FINGER WITH WATER AND SPREAD THE BATTER
  16. PUT LITTLE OF COCONUT STUFFING
  17. AGAIN PUT LITTLE OF BATTER, SPREAD AND CLOSE THE STUFFING
  18. CLOSE ALL THE SIDES WITHOUT ANY OPENING
  19. DROP THE VAADAA IN HOT OIL AND DEEP FRY IT
  20. TURN IT INTO OTHER SIDE WHEN ONE SIDE IS DONE
  21. TAKE IT OUT ONCE IT IS COOKED BOTH THE SIDES
  22. SERVE HOT
