Meat and Fruit sounds a tad bit offbeat combination aint it?? But it isn't in reality :) Check out this recipe of slow cooked mutton with hung curd and unripe jackfruit....its an absolute delight :)

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Mutton 750gms
  2. Jackfruit 350gms
  3. Hung Curd 100gms
  4. Onions 4 big size, finely sliced
  5. Ginger garlic paste 1.5 tablespoon
  6. Green Chilly paste 1 tablespoon
  7. Chilly powder 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Turmeric 1 teaspoon
  9. Cumin powder 1teaspoon Coriander powder 1 tablespoon Cardamom 3to 4pods Cinnamon 1small piece Lime juice 1 tablespoon Mustard oil : 4tablespoon Salt to taste

  11. Cardamom 3to 4pods
  12. Cinnamon 1small piece
  13. Lime juice 1 tablespoon
  14. Mustard oil : 4tablespoon
  15. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Marination
  2. Gently whisk the curd with a spoon. Make a mixture of turmeric, coriander powder, cumin powder, chilly paste, curd and lime juice.
  3. Marinate the mutton with the mix and let it rest for 45mins to an hour in the fridge.
  4. Curry preparation
  5. Cut the raw jackfruit into small equal sized cubes , similar to curry cut meat size. Pressure cook for two whistles
  6. Stir fry the boiled jackfruit with some salt, turmeric and chilly powder.
  7. Temper the mustard oil with bayleaves, cardamom and cinnamon.
  8. Add the sliced onions and sautee it to a nice brown colour.
  9. Add the ginger garlic paste, cook on a medium heat till the spices are well cooked.
  10. Add in the marinated mutton, mix well and cook it on low to medium heat, with the lid on untill the mutton is about 80% done.
  11. Add some warm water occasionally while scraping off the spices that gets stucked to the bottom of the wok.
  12. When sufficient oil is released from the mutton, add in the fried jackfruit.
  13. Add in half a cup of warm water and bring everything to a proper mix.
  14. Cover and cook on low heat for around 5 more mins or so, till the jack fruit absorbs sufficient flavour from the spices
  15. Adjust the consistency with some warm water.
