ABOUT Kholapuri Mutton RECIPE

A delicious spicy semi gravy curry that can be served with chappathi or roti.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Mutton 1 Kg
  2. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  3. Dry Coconut 100 gms
  4. Onions 4 nos
  5. Ginger 1 tbsp
  6. Garlic 1 tbsp
  7. Tomatoes 3 medium sized
  8. Red chilli powder 2 tsp
  9. Green cardamom powder 1/2 tsp
  10. Garam masala powder 1 tsp
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Oil as required

Instructions

  1. Clean and cut the mutton into medium sized pieces, rub in the turmeric and salt. Keep aside for a while.
  2. Roast the grated dry coconut until it turns into a golden colour.
  3. Cook the mutton with 2 and 1/2 cup of water till the mutton is almost cooked.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add 2 sliced onions and fry till they turn golden brown in colour. Remove and grind the roasted coconut with a little warm water to make a paste.
  5. Heat oil in a pan, add the chopped onions, saute till it turns light brown in colour. Add the ginger-garlic paste, after 2 seconds add the chopped tomatoes and cook for 5 mins.
  6. Now add the red chilli powder and the grinded paste. Saute till the oil comes out.
  7. Now add the cooked mutton. Mix well and cook for another 10 mins or till the consistency of the gravy is thick and the mutton pieces are coated with masala.
  8. Finally add the garam masala powder and cardamom powder.
  9. Serve it hot with roti.
