ABOUT Rice Pancake with Daal Kabab RECIPE

Daal chawal for me is a soul food. It’s a meal that I have grown with and is an integral part of my life. When somebody challenges my brain, it starts pumping ideas at 10x speed. With everything that my mind threw at me, I decided to give an innovative twist to the traditional daal chawal. Presenting the all new avatar of Daal chawal, the Savory Rice Pancake and Daal Kabab with basil dip. Close your mouth now, the water is dripping out.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Ingredients for Kabab:
  2. Boiled Bengal Gram (chana daal) - 1 cup
  3. Green chilli paste: 1 tsp
  4. Ginger garlic paste: 1 tsp
  5. Salt: ½ tsp
  6. Red chili powder: ½ tsp
  7. Coriander powder: ½ tsp
  8. Garam Masala: ½ tsp
  9. oil to fry
  10. Ingredients for Rice pancake:
  11. Rice: 1 cup
  12. Cornflour: 1 tbs
  13. Salt: 1 tsp
  14. oil to fry
  15. Ingredients for Basil dip:
  16. Fresh basil leaves: 1 cup
  17. Walnuts: 1/3 cup
  18. Garlic: ¼ cup
  19. Salt: 1 tsp
  20. Lemon juice: 1 tbs
  21. Olive oil: 2 tbs

Instructions

  1. Basil dip: Take all the ingredients into a mixer jar and prepare a smooth paste.
  2. for Rice pancake, Soak the rice overnight.In morning drain the water and prepare smooth paste from the soaked rice. Add water if necessary. Shift the paste into a large mixing bowl. Add salt and cornflour to it. Add water to make the batter
  3. Heat a non-stick pan. Pour one ladle of batter at a time and cook until crisp.
  4. for Kabab, In a bowl mix boiled-mashed daal with ginger garlic paste, green chili paste and all the dry spices.
  5. Divide the dough into 10 equal portions. Shape each portion into round ball and slightly press between palms.
  6. On a non-stick pan, apply some oil and shallow fry all the kababs until they turn golden.
  7. To assemble, place prepared rice pancakes in a plate. Place crispy kabab on each rice pancake. Top the kabab with prepared fresh basil dip and serve.
