ABOUT Masoor Dal Paalakwali RECIPE

A combination of masoor dal, spinach in a coconut gravy.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 5 cups chopped spinach
  2. 2 tbsp oil
  3. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  4. 1 and 1/2 cups masoor dal
  5. 1 cup grated coconut
  6. 1 tsp dry mango powder
  7. 4 flakes garlic
  8. 3 green chilies
  9. 1 tbs coriander seeds (heaped)
  10. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  11. 1 medium sized tomato
  12. 1 medium sized onion (finely chopped)
  13. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Grind together the tomato, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, green chilies, garlic flakes and coconut with one cup of water.
  2. In a vessel, heat oil and saute till the onion turns pink in colour.
  3. Add the palak, ground masala, dry mango powder, turmeric powder and masoor dal.
  4. Add water and salt and cook till the spinach and masoor dal is cooked.
  5. Garnish the gravy with grated coconut.
