Split urad dal 1/2 cup.
2 tablespoon of chana dal.
2 tablespoon of moong dal.
6 big onions sliced.
Ginger garlic paste 1 tablespoon each.
1 teaspoon each of red chilli powder and Corriander powder
1 teaspoon each of pepper powder, nutmeg powder and mace powder.
Whole peppercorns 1 teaspoon.
Cardamom, cinnamon and clove 1teaspoon each.
Garam Masala powder 1 teaspoon.
1 cup of ghee or 1/2 of ghee and 1/2 cup of olive oil.
Lemon juice 3tablespoon.
Rose petals are optional but can used if available.
Salt to taste.
Chopped green chilli and ginger julienne.
Chopped fresh corriander for garnishing.
1/2 cup of yogurt.
Instructions
Marinate the chicken with yogurt, salt, red chilli, lemon juice for 15 mins.
Soak oats and all the lentils in hot water for about 15 mins.
In the meantime fry the onion slices to dark brown and keep it aside.
After 15 mins of chicken marination, take a wok and put ghee and oil mixed together.
Add the whole garam Masala and then add the chicken.
Toss the chicken on high flame for about 5 mins. Then add the ginger garlic paste and fry them for 5 more mins.
Add the corriander powder, mace and nutmeg powder.
Saute them for 2 mins and then put water on high flame let it cook for 10 mins.
After 15 mins of oats and lentil soaked in water, put them in pressure cooker and cook for 2 whistles with just salt and garam Masala powder.
Take it out, let it come to room temperature and then put in a big wok. Pour water if it's thick.
Now once the chicken is cooked take out the chicken and separate the chicken from the bones.
Put the gravy and the boneless chicken in the big wok along with the oats and lentils.
Rose petals are optional but can be used at this time while all the ingredients are to be blended.
Use a hand blender to make a thick smooth consistency.
Add half of the fried onions in the wok and again use the hand blender.
Put 1tablespoon of lemon juice too.
Add the water if required.
In a small pan heat ghee and then add chopped green chilli, some chopped ginger, peppercorns and pour this tempering in the haleem.
Give it a good stir and then serve it by garnishing it with lemon juice, ginger julienne and fresh corriander leaves.
Add lots of fried brown onions as garnishing and while eating.
Chopped Green chillis can be used too as per likings.
It would be bit wiggly but that's the fun of having haleem.
