Meet Alex Ivanov
Alex Ivanov, 63, lives in an ordinary New York City apartment. He enjoyed walks in Central Park, eating piroshki from his local Russian diner, Matryoshka, and playing chess games against his young grandson. More than that, though, he loved solving puzzles and fixing things.
Alex was the chief engineer at a big civil engineering firm, a job he held for over 25 years, slowly moving up in rank. Little did Alex know, the same place he lived and thrived in was about to turn on him.
Childhood Full of Struggles
Alex, originating from Moscow, had a tough childhood. His family left the USSR in 1970, thrusting him into an American life that required acclimating, learning English, and building new friendships during Cold War times.
Sergei, Alex’s father, loved American music deeply and had many records. When Alex was 14, he broke down his dad’s record player and successfully pieced it back together. His parents then saw his extraordinary talent.
