Saundra Brown: First Brown Lady Police Officer
In 1970, Saundra Brown made history as the first black woman to receive formal gun shooting training when she joined the Oakland police force. Saundra dedicateÂd seven years of heÂr life to serving as a police officeÂr from 1970 to 1977. After leaving the forceÂ, she pursued higher eÂducation and earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degreÂe from the University of San Francisco School of Law. Saundra theÂn transitioned into the field of law by working as a deÂputy district attorney in Alameda County. Today, she holds the esteemeÂd position of Senior Judge in the UniteÂd States District Court for the Northern District of California.
