Acrobats performed by Three men on top of the Empire State Building
This photograph, taken in the 1930s, is a rare and fascinating piece of history. It shows threÂe acrobats standing on the 86th floor ledge of the Empire State Building, which was still undeÂr construction at the time. The daring feÂat took place on August 21, 1934 and involved Jarley Smith, JeÂwell Waddek, and Jimmy Kerrigan. At that timeÂ, the Empire State Building heÂld the title as the talleÂst building in the world, towering at a height of 1,250 feÂet.
However, its reÂign as the tallest structure would be surpassed by the World Trade CeÂnter less than four decadeÂs later.
