Nenua (sponge gourd) is very nutritious vegetable, but most people dont like to eat it. If cooked with chana dal, its flavour enhances. It goes well with chapati, easy to make as you dont have to use many masalas, neither requires external water to cook.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Nenua (sponge gourd) - 1/2 kg
  2. Soaked chana dal - 1 cup
  3. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tspn
  4. Green chillies - 2 to 3
  5. Haldi -1 tspn
  6. Red Chilli powder - 1 tspn
  7. Black pepper powder - 1/2 tspn
  8. salt as per taste
  9. Mustard oil

Instructions

  1. HEAT OIL, ADD CUMIN SEEDS
  2. ADD GREEN CHILLIES AND ALLOW TO CRACKLE
  3. ADD CHOPPED ONIONS
  4. SAUTE THEM TILL TRANSLUCENT
  5. CUT THE NENUA BEFORE HAND
  6. ADD THE NENUA INTO THE KADHAI
  7. SOAK CHANA DAL BEFOREHAND, ADD THEM AFTER NENUA
  8. ADD HALDI
  9. RED CHILLI POWDER
  10. BLACK PEPPER POWDER AND SALT
  11. MIX THEM PROPERLY, COVER AND COOK FOR 15 MIN
  12. NENUA WILL LEAVE WATER, COOK BY COVERING TILL ALL THE WATER EVAPORATES
