Healthy and tasty naatukozhi aka country chicken fry is an appetizer cum side dish which will satisfy your spicy needs for lunch.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Nattu Kozhi/Country chicken- 50 gms
  2. garlic pods- 2-3 nos
  3. Pearl onion/Small red onion- a handful
  4. Dried red chilli- 3-4 nos
  5. curry leaves- 2 springs
  6. fennel seeds- 1/2 tsp
  7. jeera- 1/2 tsp
  8. Gingelly oil- 3-4 tsp
  9. ginger Garlic paste- 2 tsp
  10. red chilli powder- 1 1/2 tsp
  11. coriander Powder- 1 tsp
  12. turmeric Powder- 1/4 tsp
  13. Garam masala- 1/2 tsp
  14. pepper powder- 1-2 tsp
  15. salt as needed
  16. coriander Leaves- 2-3 springs


  1. Wash and Clean the Chicken, Pressure the chicken for one whistle in a pressure cooker with some salt.
  2. Heat a pan with oil, temper the hot oil with Jeera and Fennel seeds, add in the curry leaves, Chopped onions, Chopped garlic, dried red chillies, cook till the onions turn translucent.
  3. Add in the Ginger garlic paste and fry them till the raw smell goes off.
  4. Add Pressure cooked chicken along with the stock and add the red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder.
  5. Allow the gravy to boil well and with the masala, adjust the salt.
  6. Add garam masala and cook the chicken for few more mins till the water dries up.
  7. Add generous amount of pepper powder, give a quick stir and remove the pan from the heat.
  8. Garnish with Coriander leaves and serve with Rice.
