ABOUT Oats Idli Doughnuts RECIPE

Oats are a very healthy option and can be had in many forms. They are nutritious, wholesome and low in cholesterol. It contains fibre and is rich in antioxidants. Hence it is advisable to include it in our daily diet. It is generally had with milk, fruits and nuts with some honey added to it for breakfast. Why not in the form of idli doughnuts? Young and old alike will simply fall in love with the appealing and appetizing look.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 2 cups oats
  2. 1 cup semolina
  3. 1 tbsp. oil
  4. buttermilk as required
  5. salt to taste
  6. 1 tsp. eno fruit salt
  7. coconut-coriander chutney to serve
  8. sambar to serve
  9. some roasted chana dal
  10. some bhujia / sev
  11. few roasted cashews
  12. few roasted peanuts
  13. 2-3 pinches of red chili flakes
  14. pepper powder as required
  15. mayonnaise as required
  16. tomato sauce as required
  17. coriander leaves as required

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the oats for a few seconds. When cool, grind into a fine powder and keep aside. Heat oil in a pan and saute the semolina for a minute.
  2. Now add the powdered oats, salt and enough buttermilk to make a batter like consistency. Just before steaming, add the eno fruit salt and a little water. Mix well. Spoon the batter on to greased idli moulds.
  3. Steam for 15-20 minutes. (If using a pressure cooker, do not put the vent). When cool, demould them and make a hole in the centre with any bottle lid or a cookie cutter.
  4. Smear some coconut chutney / mayo / sauce over the idli and sprinkle all the toppings as desired. Serve as it is or with coconut chutney and sambar.
