ABOUT Lobia Phali Subji RECIPE

The yard-long bean is also known as the long-podded cowpea, asparagus bean, snake bean, or Chinese long bean. It is also called as Chawali Sheng or Lobia. It is available throughout the year and lots of dishes can be prepared using this vegetable. Chawali dry subji or chawalichi bhaji is quite popular, require less time for cooking, prepared in every household on regular basis. Healthy and tastes awesome when used tender beans. Helps in maintaining Cholesterol Levels, Regulates Blood Sugar Levels, best for Cardiovascular Ailments, Stomach and Pancreatic Problems, good for skin and weight loss.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Chawali/Lobia Phali/ Yard long beans – 250gms
  2. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  3. Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  4. Curry leaves – 3-4
  5. Garlic crushed – 3-4
  6. Green chili slit – 2
  7. Onion finely chopped- 1 medium
  8. Tomato finely chopped – 1 medium
  9. Garam masala – 1 tsp
  10. Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  11. Salt as per taste
  12. Oil – 1.5 tbsp.
  13. Warm water – 2-3 tbsp.
  14. Fresh grated coconut – 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Wash, pat dry, chop the ends off from each bean and cut yard long beans bunch into 1/4“pieces
  2. Heat oil in a non-stick pan.
  3. Add cumin, mustard seeds. Let it splutter.
  4. Add curry leaves. Stir for few seconds
  5. Add crushed garlic, slit green chili. Cook till raw aroma goes away.
  6. Now add finely chopped onion and salt. Cook till translucent.
  7. Add garam masala, coriander powder. Mix well
  8. Add chopped yard long beans. Coat well with masala.
  9. Add finely chopped tomatoes. Mix well.
  10. Cover it with plate. Pour some water over it. Keep checking in between. After a minute add warm water. Cook for 4-5 minutes on low flame until tender
  11. Add grated coconut. Mix thoroughly. Cook for another 1 minute.
  12. Serve hot with chapati, dal rice, roti, Naan.
