ABOUT Tawa Aaloo Masala.. RECIPE

An easy peasy dish that can be done in just a matter of few minutes. Simple but delicious. This is a perfect side dish that goes well with plain boiled rice and dal tadka. It can be made with readily available pantry staples in our kitchens.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. potatoes large 4 cubed
  2. Red chilli powder 2 teaspoon
  3. salt to taste
  4. ginger garlic paste 1 teaspoon
  5. turmeric 1 teaspoon
  6. onion medium sized 1 sliced
  7. amchur powder or dry mango powder 1 teaspoon
  8. Roasted coriander powder 1 tablespoon
  9. roasted cumin powder 1 tablespoon
  10. Roasted mustard powder 1 teaspoon
  11. Roasted fenugreek powder 1/2 teaspoon
  12. oil 4 tablespoon
  13. ghee 1 tablespoon
  14. Curry leaves few
  15. cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  16. asafoetida 2 pinches


  1. In a pan, heat both oil and ghee.
  2. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  3. Next add some curry leaves and the sliced onion.
  4. Now add all the spices and saute them on a low flame for 2 to 3 minutes until a nice aroma fills up the whole house.
  5. Now add the cubed potatoes and stir well.
  6. Do not add any water.
  7. Cover and simmer on low flame for about 18 to 20 minutes.
  8. It might take a little more time to cook if the cubes are bigger.
  9. Delicious ,aromatic and spicy tawa aaloo masala is ready to be served hot with rice and dal.
