ABOUT Tomato - Onion Chutney RECIPE

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Tomato (medium size) – 1
  2. Onion slices – 3 table spoons
  3. Mustard seeds – 1 pinch
  4. Cumin seeds – 1 to 2 pinch
  5. Coriander seeds – ½ teaspoon
  6. Coriander leaves – 1 teaspoon
  7. Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
  8. Black gram – 1 teaspoon
  9. Bengal gram – 1 teaspoon
  10. Salt – to taste
  11. Turmeric powder – 1 pinch
  12. Oil – 1 table spoon
  13. Asafoetida – 1 pinch

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, black gram, Bengal gram, curry leaves, onion slices, asafoetida mix to the hot oil.
  3. Let the above mix turn light brown in color, then add sliced tomato.Cover the pan with a lid, put the flame on ‘sim’ for 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Transfer the mix to a mixie jar, sprinkle salt and put coriander leaves, grind it to get a coarse texture.
  5. If required add water to get a thin consistent chutney.
  6. This chutney can be served as an accompaniment with dal/idli/dosa and rice/pongal.
