Chicken Koftas Manchurian Style

ABOUT Chicken Koftas Manchurian Style RECIPE

Koftas are small balls of minced meat mixed with a variety of spices, onions and tomatoes often cooked in simmering masala gravy

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For Koftas:
  2. 250 gms boneless chicken
  3. 1 big onion chopped
  4. ½ Tsp garlic paste
  5. ½ Tsp ginger paste
  6. 2 tomatoes pureed
  7. ¾ Tsp red chilli powder
  8. ¾ tsp Salt
  9. 100 gms roasted gram powder
  10. 5 drops of lemon
  11. 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  12. For the Gravy:
  13. 2 to 3 tbsp oil
  14. 1 onion finely chopped
  15. 1 tbsp finely chopped garlic
  16. 1 tbsp finely chopped ginger
  17. 3 tbsp tomato sauce
  18. 1 tbsp soya sauce
  19. ½ Tsp red chilli powder
  20. ½ Tsp pepper powder
  21. ½ Tsp salt (or to taste)
  22. coriander leaves chopped
  23. Spring onion greens chopped

Instructions

  1. Grind the chicken pieces, onion and coriander leaf into a fine paste.
  2. Remove the paste into a bowl and add all the other ingredients for the kofta and mix well. (The mixture will not be firm but you will be able to make koftas with it.)
  3. Heat 3 cups water in a pan and when it starts boiling, take the kofta mixture, make small balls and drop it into the water.
  4. Cook until most of the water has evaporated and when it starts getting dry, add 2 tbsp oil and stir fry the koftas in the same pan till they are golden brown in colour.
  5. Now to prepare the sauce, heat oil in a pan, add onions, chopped garlic and ginger and saute for some time.
  6. Then add pepper powder, red chilli powder, salt, tomato sauce, soya sauce, coriander leaves and spring onions.
  7. Mix well, cook for a minute and then add 1/4 cup water
  8. Cook for 1 or 2 minutes till the sauce starts thickening.
  9. Add meat balls only when you are ready to serve.
  10. Stir for 2 to 3 minutes and make sure that the sauce completely covers the chicken meat balls (koftas).
  11. Serve hot as a starter or with fried rice or noodles.
