ABOUT Yellow Moong Dal Dahi Bhalla RECIPE

Moong dal Dahi Bhallas are soft, light, yummy and healthy too. Though these are deep fried balls which are soaked in warm water to remove extra oil. This is a healthy chaat. It can be served with the main dish or can be eaten as evening snacks.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. For Bhalla :
  2. Yellow moong dal 3/4 cup
  3. Salt 1 tsp
  4. Oil for deep frying
  5. For soaking :
  6. Luke warm water as needed
  7. Salt 1 tsp
  8. For Dahi :
  9. Thick curd 3 cups
  10. Sugar 1/2 tsp
  11. Other Ingredients :
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Cumin seed powder to taste
  14. Black pepper powder to taste
  15. Red chili powder to taste
  16. Pudina chutney as needed
  17. Imli chutney as needed
  18. Boondi mixture as needed

Instructions

  1. Take yellow moong dal in a bowl.
  2. Wash it properly and soak in normal water for 2 hrs. Drain it.
  3. Take mixer jar add drained dal and very little water.
  4. Grind it to a smooth thick batter.
  5. Transfer the batter in bowl.
  6. Add salt and mix well.
  7. Mix batter very well with a spoon for 5 min till light and fluffy.
  8. Heat oil in a wok on medium flame.
  9. Pour a spoon full of batter in hot oil.
  10. Fry it on medium flame till golden. It will take 4-5 min.
  11. Take Bhalla out of the hot oil and drain oil on tissue paper.
  12. Repeat the same process for all the remaining batter.
  13. Keep aside till use.
  14. For soaking :
  15. Heat water in a pan till it is luke warm.
  16. Add salt and mix.
  17. Dip all the Bhallas in this water for 10-15 min.
  18. Bhallas will become soft and fluffy.
  19. In this soaking process, Bhallas leave extra oil in the water and soak the water.
  20. Take out Bhallas from the water.
  21. Press each of them lightly so that the excess water should drain away from them.
  22. Place Bhallas on a serving plate.
  23. For serving :
  24. Add curd in a bowl.
  25. Mix sugar and whisk well so that no lumps should remain.
  26. Pour curd on the Bhallas.
  27. Sprinkle salt, red chili powder, black pepper powder and cumin powder.
  28. Drizzle pudina chutney and Imli chutney on it.
  29. Sprinkle Boondi mixture on top.
  30. It is ready to serve.
