ABOUT Curd Muruku or Perugu Muruku RECIPE

Just perfect for a lazy day with a cup of hot coffee, crunchy and tasty, a savory dish made with rice flour, yogurt and and sago pearls or sabudana. The output is irresistible and one cannot be happy with few - true addiction.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Rice flour - 3 cups
  2. Sour curd - 2 cups
  3. Fried gram dal powder - 1 cup
  4. Sago pearls/ sabudana - 1 cup
  5. cumin seeds - 1- 2 tsp
  6. red chilly powder - 1 tsp
  7. salt to taste


  1. Wash sago pearls thoroughly and soak in curds for 6 hours. Check after 6 hours if the sago is fully soaked by pressing one sago in between the fingers.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add the fried gram flour, rice flour, curd with sago, cumin seeds, chilly powder and salt. Mix thoroughly and knead for about 2 minutes till you get a soft dough.
  3. Do not add water to make the dough. If required add sour curd. Keep it covered.
  4. In the mean time heat oil in a heavy bottomed kadai. Check for the oil temperature. It should be on a medium flame.
  5. Now take some dough in a chakli maker and press it on oil directly in circular motion.
  6. Cook for few minutes or till one side turns light golden. Flip the muruku and cook on other side. Once done remove from oil and put on tissue paper to soak excess oil.
  7. Once it cool down. Store it in air tight container.
