We all love to eat tandoori roti with our favourite curry, same was true for me as well. So, everytime I made something that was my favourite I use to order tandoori roti from restaurant. Then one day while browsing through net I came accross homemade tandoori roti and I thought of trying it. I failed on my first 2 attempts and then with few trial and errors I perfected this recipe and trust me friends this recipe is a foolproof one and if you follow my instructions as mentioned below, you will have amazing, soft and delicious tandoori roti at home :) :)

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Whole wheat flour - 1 cup
  2. Active dry Yeast - 4 grams (1 tbsp)
  3. Salt - 1/2 tbsp
  4. Sugar - 1/3 tbsp
  5. Olive oil- 1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. PREPARING THE DOUGH
  2. Warm 1/2 cup of water in a microwave (I did it for 30 second) and dissolve the yeast and let it rest for 5 minutes
  3. In a mixing bowl take the wheat flour, sugar, salt and olive oil. Mix the dry ingredients thoroughly for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Now add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and make a soft (not sticky) dough
  5. Keep it aside for proofing at warm place for 1 hour, until the the dough has doubled in size
  6. Take the dough out and punch it to remove all the air and knead for 5 minutes. If the dough is sticky, sprinkle a bit of wheat flour and knead again until if is soft and non-sticky
  7. Make balls out of the dough and keep it covered with a wet towel.
  8. HOW TO TANDOOR ON TAWA
  9. Heat the iron Tawa on a high flame for few minutes.
  10. Roll the dough balls into thick chapati
  11. Take little bit of water in your palm and apply on one side of the chapati. Do it 2 to 3 times until water is being applied all over
  12. Now remove the chapati from the rolling board and put the wet side on the hot TAWA. This will help the roti to stick to the tawa. Let it cook on one side for a minute or until you see it bubbles up
  13. Now hold the tawa upside down on the flame and let the tandoori roti cook on medium flame for a minutes or until it is done (See the images).
