ABOUT Beef stew RECIPE

A simple but flavourful beef dish that is simmered and cooked to perfection with time.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 kg beef cut into 2 inch cubes
  2. 2 medium sized onions finely chopped
  3. 7 medium sized tomatoes finely grated
  4. 5 cloves garlic crushed
  5. 2 teaspoon red wine
  6. 2 tablespoon unsalted butter
  7. 10 cups of chicken broth
  8. 40 grams all-purpose flour
  9. 1 and half teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  10. Salt according to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash the beef and cover it with a mixture of pepper and salt.
  2. Take a heavy bottomed pan, pour in required oil then put in the seasoned beef once the oil is hot.
  3. Saute and cook the meat for 7-8 minutes till it is half cooked and slightly brown in colour.
  4. After this time period, move the beef to a plate. Remove excess oil with the help of paper towels.
  5. Preheat the oven to 162 degree celsius.
  6. Take a pot and heat in on medium flame, melt the butter in it. Then put in the onion and cook for 4-5 minutes till it is light brown in colour.
  7. Next, put in the garlic and cook for another minute till the fragrance fills the room. Put in the beef and sprinkle flour into the pan, stir and cook till it is lightly toasted.
  8. Pour in the chicken broth along with salt to taste, let it simmer and bring to a boil.
  9. Once the same is achieved, transfer this pan to the oven. Let it cook for 90 minutes or so till the meat is soft and tender.
  10. After this time, take out the pot and skim the fat off. Once again, let it cook on low heat for 1 hour till the gravy thickens.
  11. Finally pour in the red wine, adjust the seasonings of the pepper and salt. Let this cook for a while.
  12. Serve warm alongside bread or rice.
