ABOUT KoekSister (South Africa) & Semolina Pudding (Turkey) - 2 Desserts (Rakhi special) RECIPE

I have displayed 2 desserts. 'Koeksister' is a South African dessert which is a twisted or a braided shape like a plait and the 'Semolina Pudding' is a Turkish style dessert. I have made a few changes as per our flavours. These are Eggless dessert recipes. I wish you all a "Happy Raksha Bandhan."

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Koeksister Dessert - For Dough Preparation - All purpose flour - 1 cup
  2. Sorghum/Jowar (Flour) - 1 tablespoon
  3. Baking powder - 1 pinch
  4. Vegetable oil - 2 1/2 teaspoon
  5. salt - 1 pinch
  6. water - As required to prepare a stiff puri dough
  7. For sugar Syrup - sugar - 1 cup
  8. Vanilla essence - 2 drops
  9. water - 1/2 cup
  10. cinnamon Stick - 1
  11. nutmeg powder - 1 pinch
  12. oil to fry
  13. For Garnishing - Honey - 1 tablespoon and sugar Syrup - as required
  14. semolina Pudding - Roasted semolina- 1 cup
  15. Roasted Vermicelli - 2 tablespoon
  16. Grated carrot - 2 tablespoon
  17. cardamom Powder - 1 teaspoon
  18. almond milk - 1 cup
  19. sugar - 1 1/2 cup
  20. Clarified butter/ ghee - 3/4 cup
  21. water - 2 cups
  22. For Garnishing - raisins , Almonds and Grated carrot


  1. Koeksister Dessert - Sift all purpose flour, Jowar flour, baking powder and salt.
  2. Now Prepare the dough by adding hot vegetable oil, water. Note that the dough must be stiff by kneading it well.
  3. Keep the dough in the refrigerator for 15 minutes by covering it with a thin cloth.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare sugar syrup by combining the sugar and water in a saucepan which is over a medium-high heat. Also place a cinnamon stick in this heating mixture. Add a pinch nutmeg powder, vanilla essence to this.
  5. Stir it well until it turns into a string consistency. Now, remove from the flame and keep it aside.
  6. Make a chapati of thickness 1 inch and cut it carefully into 3 thin strips (but not through the top). The ends on the top must be Pinched together. Now press the cut ends together firmly. Braid it into plaits. Fry them in oil till it turns golden brown.
  7. Immerse the prepared plaits into the sugar syrup for 2 minutes. Garnish the plaits with honey.
  8. Preparation of Semolina Pudding (Another Dessert) - Take a saucepan, pour water, almond milk and boil it.
  9. Add vermicelli, semolina and grated carrot and let it cook for sometime.
  10. Once it is cooked, add sugar, cardamom powder and clarified butter. Stir well until it is thoroughly cooked.
  11. Garnish with ghee roasted raisins, almonds and carrots. Refrigerate for 15 mins & serve chilled.
