ABOUT Misal pav RECIPE

A popular spicy dish from the western India. The uniqueness of this dish is topped with chiwda mix/farsan,this spicy & lip smacking dish is typically served for breakfast or snack which is extended for lunch or dinner too.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1 cup moth beans /matki
  2. 1 tsp turmeric
  3. 1 tbsp redchilly pd
  4. 2 tbsp kolhapuri chutney masala pd (available in super markets)
  5. 1 tsp jaggery (opt)
  6. 1 tsp ginger paste
  7. 1 tsp garlic paste
  8. 1 /4 cup coriander leaves
  9. Salt as per taste
  10. 1 cup finely chopped onion
  11. 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  12. 1 tsp mustard
  13. 1 tsp cumin /jeera
  14. 10 curry leaves
  15. For serving
  16. 5 pav / bread
  17. 1/2 cup farsan (mixed chiwda)
  18. Lemon wedges
  19. Coriander leaves
  20. 1/4 th cup finely chopped onion

Instructions

  1. Firstly soak 1 cup matki in enough water over night, next day drain it and tie in a cloth for a day
  2. In a pressure cooker add 2 cups moth beans/matki,turmeric,salt and 3 cups water
  3. Pressure cook for a whistle or till matki turns soft, keep aside
  4. Take a kadai, heat oil add mustard, zeera once it spluters add curry leaves followed by onion, saute onion till translucent
  5. Next add chopped tomatoes and saute till mushy, now add ginger garlic paste add fry till raw smell disappears
  6. Next add red chilly pd, turmeric pd, kolhapuri chutney pd, salt, and fry for a minute
  7. To this add boiled matki along with water, jaggery and few coriander leaves, cover and cook for 5 mins, once it gets nice boil switch off the flame
  8. This is thin gravy, so adjust water according to your preference
  9. Serve misal with pav, chiwda mix, onion and Lemon wedges
  10. Serve hot
