ABOUT Murgh Nizaami RECIPE

Chicken curry made from rich ingredients like cashew nuts, almonds, cardamoms and Yoghurt, Named after the royal Nizams of Hyderabad.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Chicken - 1 kg( cut in pieces)
  2. Onions - 2 (chopped)
  3. Tomatoes -2
  4. Ginger+garlic paste - 3 tbsp
  5. Fried cashew nuts - 25 gm
  6. Fried almonds(blanched and sliced) - 25 gm
  7. Coriander leaves - 3 tbsp(chopped)
  8. Yoghurt - 1 cup
  9. Chicken masaala - 1 tbsp
  10. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  11. Red Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  12. Kashmiri chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  13. Fresh Coconut - 1 tbsp(grated)
  14. Green Cardamom - 4
  15. Ghee - 100 gm
  16. Salt - As required

Instructions

  1. Mix 1/3 cup yoghurt, 1 tbsp ginger+garlic paste in Chicken.
  2. Keep it in refrigerator for an hour.
  3. Powder the cashew nuts and half of Almonds in a grinder.
  4. Boil Tomatoes for 5 minutes and let it cool.
  5. Grind boiled tomatoes, green chillies, 1 tbsp coriander leaves and grated Coconut together.
  6. In a kadhai or deep frying pan, heat the ghee and put in the cardamom.
  7. When your hear it crackle, add chopped onion and fry till golden brown.
  8. Add remaining 2 tbsp ginger and garlic paste and fry.
  9. Add grounded tomato paste and saute.
  10. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, kashmiri chilli powder and chicken masala.
  11. Add marinated chicken.
  12. Add cashew+almond paste and yoghurt.
  13. Stir for 1-2 minutes, coating the chicken.
  14. Fry over a medium fire until ghee separates and is seen floating on top.
  15. Add 1 cup water and salt.
  16. Cover the curry and cook until the chicken is done.
  17. Garnish with the fried almonds and chopped coriander leaves.
  18. Serve hot with pulav or paratha.
