This is my mom's recipe which she makes on every eid..the best part of this recipe is that every piece of chicken is juicy and flavourful as it is marinated overnight.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 kg chicken
  2. 700gm chopped onion
  3. 1/2 cup Milk
  4. 1/4 tsp saffron(zafran)
  5. oil for cooking.
  6. For the Marinade:-
  7. 1 cup curd
  8. 50 gm poppy sees(khuskhus)
  9. 1 tsp garam masala powder
  10. 1 tblsp red chilli powder
  11. 1 tblsp ginger paste
  12. 1 tblsp garlic Paste
  13. 2-3 drops meetha attar
  14. 1 tblsp oil
  15. a pinch of yellow colour (optional)


  1. Wash the chicken and keep aside to drain excess water.
  2. Grind the poppy seed into a smooth paste.
  3. Soak saffron in milk and keep aside.
  4. Now add the poppy seed and all the other ingredients for the marinade into the chicken.
  5. Cover and keep in fridge overnight..It can also be marinated for 3-4 hours in case of shortage of time.
  6. Now take a kadhai.
  7. Add oil and heat it.add in the chopped onion.
  8. Fry until light brown.
  9. Add in the chicken alogwith all the masala.
  10. Cook on medium flame until oil separates and masala is well cooked.This will take approximately 20-25 minutes
  11. Now add in the soaked saffron and milk.
  12. Add little water if it turns dry.
  13. Serve hot with naan kulchas or paratha.
